Obituary for Joe R. Bolton

Joe Rodney Bolton, 72 of Prestonsburg, KY, went home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2019.
Joe was born November 19, 1946, in Cincinnati, OH, to Ora and Amy Mae Parker Bolton. He attended the Robert A. Taft High School after which he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran and remained active in many veterans programs, including the annual Christmas dinner at the Perry County Kentucky Veterans Center. He was also a member of the Oleika Shrine Club and belonged to the Cox Masonic Lodge #464.
Mr. Bolton was the owner of Kentuckiana Election Service and enjoyed participating in the annual politics of Kentucky. He was a 40 year member of both the Kentucky County Clerks and Kentucky County Judge Executive’s Associations.
A prominent Sportsman and Conservationist, Joe was active in many organizations including the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the National Rifle Association, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Floyd County Hunter Education Association. He was past President of the Dewey Lake Fish and Game Club and was also honored as a Sportsman of the Year by the Kentucky Hunter Education Association. Joe’s true passion, however, was his devotion to youth programs that fostered more involvement in the great outdoors. This is no better represented than by the 2019 dedication of the first Joe R. Bolton Dewey Lake Youth Turkey Hunt and his annual efforts in organizing the Dewey Lake Youth Squirrel Hunt Camp Out, which is now entering its 20th year. Thousands of Kentucky youth have been forever positively affected by the lasting legacy of Joe’s volunteer efforts and mentorship.
Mr. Joe Bolton is survived by a daughter, Bernice Ann Taylor, her husband Dale and grandsons Joshua and Nathanial, of Cadiz, KY. He also leaves behind his companion of 22 years, Dora Salyer of Prestonsburg, KY; his extended family Dee Dee Hackworth, daughter Talyor, and Paul Cowsar of Prestonsburg, KY; Tanya and Kevin Holbrook and their son Jonathan of Paintsville, KY; and Mark and Donetta Wallace and their daughters Lakyn Julia, Amelia Dawn and Lydia Faith, of Hueysville, KY.

Visitation for Mr. Bolton will begin Tuesday at 5pm at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin with Masonic Services at 7pm.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1pm in the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home Chapel in Martin with Pastor Blaine Depoy officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Bolton has requested that donations be made to the Appalachian Hospice Care at Hager Hill, KY and to the Floyd County Hunter’s Education Association in support of the annual Dewey Lake Youth Squirrel Hunt Camp
